They stacked them in their dear van and brought them blinking in to the sunlight. And so here we are, we offer you our songs played with gusto, and not a little cider. Holly KMK brings Pizza Tramp to The Chelsea, Easton

21st October 2017 By Davidkmk Leave a Comment

As well as providing serious vocal power for Kiss Me, Killer Holly’s been putting on gigs as Kiss Me Promotions. She brought Pizza Tramp to The Chelsea, Easton on 20 October and it was mental.

Local heroes Lesser Known Character open proceedings with their take on powerful pop punk before Chris Fishlock’s legendary Pokemon Liberation Army entertained a growing crowd. Welsh outfit Gung-Ho’s brutal grunge punk increased the volume before headliners Pizza Tramp sent the room absolutely chaotic.

The gig featured on of the best punk bill posters I’ve seen in ages, thanks to Kiss Me, Killer drummer and illustrator, AJ. Sound was great too thanks to the involvement of Chris from Carnival Punks.

Keep an eye on Holly’s Kiss Me Promotions page on Facebook for forthcoming gigs. The next one features surf noir exponents The SinicTones, which features Kiss Me, Killer bassist Nat on vocals and guitar.

Carnival Punks’ anarcho-punk half-dayer hits Chelsea

26th July 2017 By Davidkmk 2 Comments

If you ever hear an uniformed individual utter the perennial moan, ‘the punk scene’s dead’ simply point them in the direction of the next Carnival Punks gig. Craig and the crew rounded up some of the best anarcho-punk around and had them play The Chelsea, Easton for an explosive half-dayer. This is what’s punk’s all about.

It paid to get in early as there was no filler to make up the numbers on this bill with Bristol-based Trees of Rage starting things off, serving-up a varied set of tuneful, conscious punk.

The Chelsea was really starting to fill up when Kiss Me, Killer launched into Snakes, title track to our forthcoming EP release, a ferocious song that might surprise people who haven’t seen us since our first couple of gigs. We’re now feeling tighter than ever and playing The Chelsea always seems like a homecoming. Although we’re desperate to work on a few new song ideas that have been kicking around, the set feels pretty good to play now, really mixing it with straight-up classic punk, proto-metal, touches of heavy psych with b-movie soundtrack derived horror and spy-guitar. Wait till you hear the new stuff, though – it’s going to be a step up again.

Next up were London three-piece, Bug Central, who played a storming set of anarcho-punk before Dorset’s legendary Virus took to the floor with powerfully-delivered songs snarling at political and social issues.

I’d really been looking forward to Zounds’ Steve Lake. I’d only seen Zounds once before live despite The Curse of Zounds easily being in my top 10 albums of all time and definitely in my Top 5 punky albums. 2011 comeback album The Redemption of Zounds is also a big favourite. There’s not too many musicians I catch live where I know every song, every word, so nearly lost my voice screaming along to material like Dirty Squatters and Can’t Cheat Karma – I couldn’t do what our Holly does gig after gig.

We loved #anthrax at #thechelseainn – eviscerating #anarchopunk – can you spot #carnivalpunks @dabble68 ? #punk #punkrock #bs5 #bristol #bristolpunk #anarchy #diy #underground #easton #bristollive

A post shared by Kiss Me, killer (@kissmekillerband) on Jul 25, 2017 at 10:03am PDT

Despite the mighty Anthrax headlining I’d been most looking forward to seeing anarchistwood, after checking out some of the stuff they have on YouTube. This is a band you have to experience live as it was one of the best punk sets I’d seen in ages (and I see great punk sets all the time) with a mesmerizing performance from Frank Cutter, Emily Flea and the band.

Anthrax – one of the ‘big four’ of anarcho-punk – finished off the evening, taking to the stage as a six-piece with an immense THREE guitar attack. The smashed through some of their classic songs which sent The Chelsea into a massive, singing, dancing party with Carnival Punks’ Craig even spotted doing a bit of crowd surfing.

What a gig.

Kiss Me, Killer return to The Chelsea Inn

18th April 2017 By Davidkmk Leave a Comment

Kiss Me, Killer returned the The Chelsea Inn, Easton on Easter Monday as part of a stellar lineup from the length and breadth of the UK hosted by Fishlock Promotions.

The half-dayer kicked off around 5pm with local punk folkers Invincible Pigs serving up a mix of politics and jigs.

We were up second with daylight still pouring through the Chelsea’s windows but fortunately people poured into the bar from outside and we welcomed a large and enthusiastic crowd.

I (David) felt a bit all over the place fluffing solos left right and centre on the early songs but luckily the rest of the band were on point, underpinned by the rock-solid beats of AJ (sporting flaming orange hair and channeling Animal) and Nat’s propulsive basslines. Holly’s crowd interaction gets better and better and you could tell the audience really warmed to her. Cat’s vocals too were sounding perfect and this time her Telecaster was plugged into my big Orange amp giving it a new beefiness – you’d never have guessed she’d flown back from Switzerland that afternoon. Commitment!

By the last few songs I felt warmed up and the uptempo psychedelia of Snooker really came across, my Gordon Smith GS2 guitar howling away nicely, while From the Inside seemed to posses all the punch it needs. Cat’s always well-recieved song, Och Aye!, meanwhile, was imbued with a fresh level of meaning — I shall say no more.

Our friend Ina kindly held our Zoom digital recorder during the set. Here’s a quick clip of Snooker:

There was a huge amount of love from a varied Chelsea crowd. We befriended a Swiss tourist, a punk fan for 40+ years, who had wisely strayed off the beaten track of Cathedrals and ‘Spenshun Bridges to seek out proper DIY punk rock in the backstreets of BS5. The only disappointment for him was that we didn’t have any Kiss Me, Killer records to sell him (on vinyl!), although I helpfully suggested a few options around Bristol where he could go crate-digging for rare material.

We seemed to get rid of some stickers and bin badges on the merch table and the Chelsea manager Sali purchased one of our tees.

We all stayed to the end to see the rest of the acts including acoustic punk including The Tragically Mystery tour, who offered thoughtful songs on various philosophical and political matters, some storming punk rock from Derry’s Last Avenue, frenetic Yorkshire garage from Nosebleed who used the entire Chelsea to good effect, Edinburgh’s Billy Liar played some acoustic tunes, and raging Scottish pop punks The Murderburgers wrapped things up with a storming set.
